Andrea M. Webster graduated from Indiana University (IU) in May of 2007 with a B.A. in French. She is currently seeking a Master of Public Administration at the Maxwell School of Syracuse University (SU); a Master of Science in Environmental Studies at the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY ESF); and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Sustainable Enterprise (CASSE), a joint program between SUNY ESF, the Whitman School of Management, and the LC Smith College of Engineering.

During her time at IU, Andrea instituted the use of reusable water bottles in campus dining facilities, established an annual end-of-the-year residence hall donation program, and served on a campus-wide committee that made sustainability policy recommendations to the IU administration. Andrea also spent a semester in Aix-en-Provence, France, where she studied French literature, linguistics and history at the Université de Provence.

After graduating from IU, Andrea completed a summer internship at the Indiana Department of Environmental Management in the Office of Air Quality. Andrea then spent three years working for the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) as the Publications and Education Coordinator and Editor of the AASHE Bulletin, a weekly e-newsletter on campus sustainability news, opportunities, and events with over 10,000 subscribers. During her time at AASHE, she released three publications: AASHE Digest 2007, AASHE Digest 2008, and AASHE Digest 2009.

As a second-year graduate student, Andrea's research focuses on race and class stratification in higher education institutions committed to sustainability. She has presented her work at three conferences, both orally and in poster format. At this time, Andrea's research proposal has been accepted by her committee, she has completed the pilot study, and she has begun her final data collection and analysis. She hopes to defend in the fall of 2012.

In her work with SUNY ESF, Andrea assists the Assistant Provost for Assessment and Academic Initiatives at SUNY ESF, Dr. Valerie Luzadis. This work currently entails progressing assessment within the College and assisting a research project related to researcher experiences in interdisciplinary collaborations. Over the past year and a half, Andrea's work with Dr. Luzadis entailed incorporating a campus-wide sustainability assessment as part of SUNY ESF's decennial accreditation submission. She helped the College to develop a sustainability plan as part of this process. In the spring of 2011, Andrea assisted the Director of Renewable Energy Systems to complete the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS), a sustainability assessment of the College's curriculum and operations. As a follow up to STARS, the SUNY ESF administration accepted Andrea's proposal to develop a online searchable database of all courses, including those focused on and related to sustainability.

Andrea's participation in the CASSE program has provided her with the experience of working on sustainability projects in multidisciplinary teams, with students from the business school and the college of engineering. This semester, Andrea will be consulting for Gaylord Brothers, a local Syracuse company, to explore the possibility of cradle-to-cradle designs for some of its core products.

At SU's Maxwell School, Andrea has completed coursework in governmental systems, budgeting, statistical analysis and managerial economics. This semester she will expand her knowledge of statistical analysis and begin studying the financial management at nonprofit organizations. Her focus within this program is nonprofit management and social policy.

Andrea's expected graduation date for both programs is May 2013.
